The Haren Pandya Case

Last, but not the least, is the Haren Pandya murder case. When Pandya, the former home minister of Gujarat, was killed in Ahmedabad in 2003, the BJP was in power in the state as well as the Centre. And yet the murderers were not caught.

This is the case of yet another double-speak of Modi. He has been demanding the setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) in other cases. Why does he not ask for a SIT probe in the Haren Pandya murder case? Pandya’s father, a RSS leader, had said that people arrested in the Haren Pandya case were innocent and the real culprit was Modi himself. No one listened to him. Now two judges of the Gujarat High Court have made it clear that those arrested in the case were falsely arrested.

And yet Modi is the poster boy and mascot of the Sangh Parivar. He is projected as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. Gujarat assembly polls will be a test by fire for him. It won’t be an easy political journey for Modi. The road from Gandhinagar to New Delhi is virtually a political minefield for Modi.
