Double-speak on CAG Reports

Modi has demanded a CBI probe into scandals reported in various CAG reports, including on Coalgate and Delhi airport, which hauled the UPA government over coals. But his double-speak on the issue is evident as while he is batting on the front foot with regard to the above-mentioned CAG reports, he is totally silent on a CAG report which has accused his government of corruption amounting to Rs 16,706.99 crore in just one year. His silence is golden when it comes to the CAG’s observation that his favourite industrialist Adani has been benefited by cheaper gas which was meant for public.

Moreover, while the Manmohan Singh government has cried itself hoarse in inviting the BJP-led opposition to discuss CAG reports on the floor of parliament, Modi never practiced at home what he is preaching to the Centre.

See the contrast here. The Central government tabled the CAG report in the beginning of the monsoon session of Parliament and invited discussion on it in parliament. On the other hand, Modi did not allow CAG report to be tabled in the Gujarat Assembly till the last day because it was full of scandals of his government. And it was tabled in the house only after suspending the entire opposition. Why was he not ready for discussion on the CAG report?

“Modi is politicising the coal issue of the CAG report. Same CAG has found corruption of Rs 16706.99 crore of the Gujarat CM in one year. BJP is demanding resignation of the central government on the basis of CAG report. Why the BJP’s Gujarat Chief Minister is not quitting when CAG has said that he has indulged in corruption by providing cheaper gas to Adani, Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil went on record as saying.
